The Hawai’i beach volleyball team dropped a spot to No. 15 in Tuesday’s AVCA Collegiate Beach Top 20.
Defending (2019) national champion UCLA (19-1) received 11 first-place votes to stay at No. 1 while USC (18-2), with the other two votes, remained at No. 2. Going 2-1 vs. Hawai’i last week did not affect Cal Poly’s rank, the Mustangs still at No, 6. Big West rival Long Beach State (12-12) slipped two spots to No. 18, the Beach losing three times to Grand Canyon in Northridge, Calif., before beating CSUN.
The BeachBows (8-7) finish up the regular season on the road, first heading to Seattle for the Husky Invitational hosted by Washington. On Friday, Hawai’i opens play against Oregon (2-6) at 9:15 a.m. HST followed by a dual with Portland (0-0) and then host UW (1-7). Bracket play is Saturday.
This is the home opener for UW as well as the first non-exhibition matches for Portland. The Pilots had 4 exhibitions with Corban in Salem, Ore., leading up to this Friday.
The BeachBows also will play No. 9 Arizona (16-4) on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a rematch with the Huskies. Hawai’i returns home before heading to Long Beach State for the Big West Tournament April 30-May 1.
