U.S. (2-0) sweeps Canada (0-2) 26-24, 25-15, 25-10 in Remini, Italy
Former Hawaii All-American Emily Maglio, a middle for Canada, finished with 4 points, 3 on kills, 1 on a block
On Thursday, Canada plays Dominican Republic, 3 a.m. HST
The U.S. faces Brazil at 7:30 a.m. HST
Watched all three Canada matches just to watch Maglio. Canada lost all three matches this week, but they took a set off Brazil and almost won the first against the US. Canada has a great right side hitter, but no one else to really help. They’re really week on the left side and passing. With the bad passing there wasn’t many opportunities to run the middle.
Looking forward to tonight at 10, Men’s Bulgaria vs France. Hope to see Parapunov in the team intros to the match. Netherlands will be playing sometime around 4am.
On a side note, I watched the US vs Brazil Match, which the US won, and one of the outside hitters for the US looked so familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Then she attempted a kill and when she landed, her foot stepped on the line and the Brazilian blocker landed on it on her way down from the block(thankfully she didn’t get hurt), and it was then that it hit me. It was the girl from the Minnesota team that Hawaii played at Minnesota where Niki Taylor landed and twisted her ankle. lol..I guess the trauma from that match for me is still there 🙂
“Release the baggage” 😉
Agree about Canada. This is their first VNL so a young program in many ways. There had been a comment that Canada had an unorthodox style of play and I think you saw some of that when they almost won a couple of Set 1s. Happy for Maglio.
