VNL men: U.S. swept by Poland, other Friday results

The U.S. was swept by defending event champion Poland 25-17, 28-26, 25-17 Friday in Volleyball Nations League play in Rimini, Italy.

The U.S. dropped to 2-3 after its second straight loss.

MB Taylor Averill (Hawai’i) came off the bench for 3 kills (3-1-4) and added a block.

S Micah Christenson (Kamehameha) 0-0-2 in kill attempts with 21 assists and 1 dig.

L Erik Shoji (Punahou) had 8 digs.

Earlier Friday, the Netherlands picked up its first win when outlasting Germany, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13. This is the first time the Dutch have qualified for this event.
