Back from hiatus: Some Wahine VB tidbits

Aloha, apologize for the silence. Was distracted with son’s wedding and then a trip to the mainland. Happy to report that uploading the vax card was pretty painless.

Nothing official still from UH, which usually waits on the Big West, but ….

Latest on Wahine schedule has them at the Utah Classic over Labor Day weekend. Field also has San Diego, Cal Poly and the host Utes. Hawaii slated to play Utah on Sept. 4, second match of a doubleheader for the Utes, who play Cal Poly in the morning.

Utah’s schedule doesn’t have the other matches. Utes play San Diego on Sept.3. Not sure if the two Big West teams will meet or when.

Mentioned earlier that, courtesy of Marquette, the Wahine open the season Aug. 27-29. Hawai’i plays Fairfield, followed by Marquette then Texas A&M.

Also, courtesy of new Big West member UC San Diego, Hawaii is at UCSD on Oct. 8, host the Tritons Nov. 13.

UCLA also announced its schedule today and Hawai’i is not on it, just the second time in 47 years. They had played each other every year between 1974 and 2017, as well as in 2019. In 2018, Bruins pulled out of the HAL Invitation due to the hurricane watch.

Caylen Alexander announced her oral commitment to play for the Wahine in 2022 on Twitter. The 5-11 OH was on the 2020 AVCA High School Volleyball Phenom list and GVCA All-State AAAAAA for the Centennial Knights in Roswell, Ga. She plays for A5 Volleyball Club. Videos available at HUDL.

Cal State Fullerton coach Ashley Preston, the Big West COY in 2019, is now the new coach at New Orleans. Nicole Poster has been elevated to interim head coach.

Also trading uniforms is Stanford’s Jaylen Jasper, son of former UH quarterback Ivin and Wahine basketball player Donna Joe, who will play as a graduate student at Pepperdine. He is a 6-7 Opp.

  1. Good info Cindy. Someone on VT mentioned that Mark Presho’s son Kyler is transferring to UH. Any word on this?

  2. Cindy, Is it possible to get an update of former UH men’s volleyball
players who are now playing professional, ie., Joe Worsley (Germany),
Patrick Gasman (Brazil). We don’t normally get news on the “after UH
life.” Good to know that Rado is playing for his Bulgaria team (Olympics)?
    Mahalo for your good work!

    • Will update when can Leagues are done pretty much until fall After the Olympics
Check earlier posts for when Worsley and Van Tilburg teams were in the Playoffs
this would have been in April
BTW parapunov was playing for the Bulgarian national team Not the Olympic team
Bulgaria did not qualify for Tokyo Games

  3. Sorry to see Ashley leave. She always seemed extremely positive with her players even when the team was doing very poorly. I hope CSF continues its upswing.
