There were some really good candidates being considered this year. The committee did a great job with some hard decisions. (Full disclosure, I am a non-voting member as the COH historian).
Congrats to these four:
National champion high jumper and Rainbow Wahine volleyball player Amber Kaufman, the late Heisman Trophy finalist Colt Brennan, the late broadcaster Robert Kekaula, and the late founding member of Nā Koa Football Club Edwin Wong.
The Class of 2021 will be officially enshrined during Homecoming Weekend Oct. 1-2. Also, there will be a half-hour special on KHON-TV on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., and on KHII on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Kaufman is the third women’s track and field athlete and 14th women’s volleyball player. Brennan is the 31st football player. Kekaula and Wong enter the Circle in the “Contributor” category. Kekaula is the fifth broadcaster to be enshrined.
Kaufman also had quite the leg. Remember her once punting a volleyball during practice in the Stan Sheriff Center from the baseline across the court and into the upper seats on the opposite side.
