Junior setter Jakob Thelle picked up his third award of the week when being named the AVCA Division I-II player of the week. The Norwegian national led top-ranked Hawai‘i to a pair of season-opening wins over No. 7 Loyola Chicago.

As mentioned previously when the Big West awarded him Offensive POW honors, he had 72 assists and helped the Rainbow Warriors hit .367 in the wins over the Ramblers. In addition to averaging 10.29 assists per set, he had six aces in the first win and three more in the rematch … Those six aces set a career high, and he also tied a career high with four blocks in the opener … In the series with the Ramblers he had a combined 10 digs, nine aces, five blocks and five kills.

Thelle also was named Off The Block’s national setter of the week.

He is the first UH setter to earn national weekly honors and the 13th in the program’s history. Last season, super senior opposite Rado Parapunov had three national weekly honors.

Hawai’i next hosts Edward Waters of Florida, a first-year program on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 5 p.m. The Tigers lost their exhibition match with Lancaster Bible College 3-2 on Tuesday.
