Congrats to Todd-Johnson on KVA title, Kan on Waupaca title; Nikolov turns pro, etc

Congrats to Warrior Alakaʻi Todd and former Warrior Devon Johnson on winning the 11th Keauhou Volleyball Association Summer Jam Men’s Open Division Doubles Championship Saturday night in Kailua-Kona.

Also former Wahine Carly Kan teamed with Kaitlyn Leary to win the AVP’s Wauaca Open in Oshkosh, Wis Saturday. They were the top seeds

Not really surprised that Alex Nikolov, the AVCA POY, is leaving Beach.  He announced Friday that he has signed a contract with Italian professional team Lube Volleyball.

Why I say I’m not surprised, not based on watching he and his father after Beach was swept by the Warriors last May. The only freshman to win the NPOW said he came to Beach to win four national championships. He’ll make a good living after a runner-up finish in his only college season.

IMHO the award should have gone to Warrior setter Jakob Thelle.

ALSO Tread Rosenthal, a 6-7 setter at Mira Costa High, has committed to Hawai’i for 2024-25. He is a rising junior who was named Best Setter at the Pan American Games in May after the USA Boys U19 national team took gold.

And no, haven’t seen a complete Wahine schedule. Saw Coach Ah Mow the other day after she did an interview with Jason Kaneshiro. They are waiting on one contract before releasing it.

Wahine open double days Aug. 9
