WVB: Wahine to add Utah MB, indoor and beach receive AVCA team academic award

Apologize for the late posts. Been traveling and dealing with personal stuff.

Per @tifferspxp (Tiff Wells, UH volleyball radio broadcaster) The Wahine pick up some much needed help and depth in the middle blocker position. Per her Instagram from earlier this week, former Utah Middle Blocker
@EvansKennedi is now a Rainbow Wahine #HawaiiWVB
She is no longer listed on the Utes’ roster. She is a 6-2 redshirt senior from Twin Falls, Idaho. Against the Wahine last Sept 4, she had four kills, five BA and one dig in playing all four sets. She started all 16 matches for Utah before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Her UU bio below:
The only other true middles on the Wahine roster are Amber Igiede and Anna Kiraly. Both Braelyn Akana and Tiffany Westerberg are listed at OH/MB. The other option UH might have had was going with a 6-2 with Mylana Bird playing both setter and MB, which she did at Alabama, or moving her to MB with Lang setting all six rotations.

The UH indoor and beach squads are among more than 1,200 teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award, announced on Monday.

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams (men/women, boys/girls, indoor/beach) that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.

The Wahine indoor squad had a 3.45 GPA and the BeachBows a 3.36 GPA this past school year. UH is the only Big West squad to be recognized by the AVCA on each the indoor and beach sides.

Wahine indoor open practice on Aug. 9.
