BVB: Glagau, Van Sickle named first team All-Americans for second time

The Hawai’i beach volleyball team’s top pair of Kaylee Glagau and Brooke Van Sickle were named to the AVCA’s Beach All-America first team on Thursday.

It marks the second straight year that Glagau (Jr., Mississauga, Canada) and Van Sickle (Gr., Battle Ground, Wash.) earned the distinction. The duo join just four other Rainbow Wahine — Katie Spieler, Brittany Tiegs, Nikki Taylor and Emily Maglio — to earn multiple All-America citations. They are also the first at UH to earn repeat honors as a pair.

They followed a 30-win season in 2022 by going 29-3 this year, all but three times competing at No. 1. Their 59 career wins together are the most by any UH pair.  They have beaten pairs from top-5 teams UCLA, Florida State and LSU and have secured the clinching point in eight of UH’s 3-2 wins this year. At one point this year, the pair won 16 straight matches. Earlier this week the tandem was named the Big West Pair of the Year, becoming the league’s first repeat winner of the award.

The BeachBows are currently in Gulf Shores, Ala, preparing for NCAA Championships.  The 11th seed BeachBows will take on No. 6 seed Loyola Marymount in a Round of 16 match on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. HT. The match will air live on ESPNU and streamed on ESPN+.
